Dedicated to Memory #2.
Or, why I didn't survive law school. I think the assignment was to describe a grievance. I can't even remember how the dust from this barrel smelled at the time.
______________________
Eros, a professional dancer residing in a medium-sized mill town in Oregon, complains of what seems a timeless antagonism with Psyche, an emeritus professor retired in the same small town. While unable to articulate any concrete grievances, Eros’ complaints seem to establish a pattern of persistent mental abuse from Psyche. Foremost on this list of grievances is Psyche’s constant dismissal and ignorance of Eros’ voice, his apparent disgust with her changing appearance and a lack of faith in her means of livelihood. Psyche, for his part, insists the burden falls on Eros. She is emotional to a fault and unable to communicate in a reasoned manner, her fancy leads her unsustainable situations, and her behavior in the company of Psyche’s cohorts often has negative effects on his reputation and career. Yet, despite these conflicts, they continue a mutually dependent relationship. Seen everywhere together, they at times seem to live in harmony. Unfortunately, perhaps because of the duration and intensity of the relationship, or perhaps as a result or irreconcilable differences listed above, a severance seems desirous and inevitable for both.
